Shyanne Brown 2nd hr Comp May 4 2016 ABC news The 2016 Mercury transit will occur between about 7:12 a.m. and 2:42 p.m. Mercury is the closet planet to the sun. It will begin to cross the suns path at 7:12 a.m. It will slowly move across the face of the sun and it will appear as a small black dot to people on Earth. This is if they are using a telescope or high powered binoculars with solar filters. The movement will take Mercury 7.5 hours with the planet leaving the suns rays at 2:42 p.m. according to NASA. NASA states that the last "trek" across the sun was in 2006. Space agencies expect the event will be visible to people in the eastern United States. Others who live in the West can see it after sunrise. So if you remember on May 9 look up at the sky and see if you can see little mercury passing across space in front of the sun.

Shyanne Brown April 26 2016 2nd hr comp ABC News "Taking a deep breath in Los Angeles may fill your lungs with more than fresh air as the city is among the worst offenders for air pollution in the U.S," (American Lung Association's 2016 State of the Air report). There was reports released today that finds 166 million people or 52.1% of people in the U.S. live in countries that have unhealthy levels of Ozone or pollution. Twenty million people live in the 13 counties that failed all three air pollution tests in Los Angeles. Ozone smog is an invisible pollutant caused by gases reacting with sunlight. Pollution that is particles is caused by minuscule liquid and solid particles in the air. Many are worried that children with normal lungs will have compromised lung growth with exposure to pollution.Doctors say that the effects of the pollution will cause heart disease and heart attacks. California cities are the worst for air pollution. Other cities that are in California including Fresno, Sacramento, Modesto, San Francisco, and El Centro are ranked in the top 10 for the most ozone-pollution. There are many efforts to reduce pollution in the air of the United States.

Shyanne Brown April 22 2016 Comp K.Rod Abc News Princes death Prince died on April 20,2016. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death. His autopsy will be done this Friday, April 22, 2016. Prince Rogers Nelson died at the age of 57. He was found this Thursday unresponsive in an elevator at his studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. His fans camped out by Paisley Park where the artist's home and recording studio was. They left bouquets of flowers and signs. Prince transcended generations and genres with his music.People say he defined the '80s with songs such as "Kiss" and "Purple Rain", and defied the music industry in a fight for creative freedom. Before this he canceled two performances at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. "The entertainer is battling the flu" the Fox said in a statement that day. The Entertainer will be severely missed but his legacy will remain

Bombs exploded at the Brussels airport and one of the city's metro stations.That Tuesday killing at least 31 people and severely wounding dozens. The European capital was again locked down because of the security threats. This Sunday ,March 3 , the Brussels Airport partially reopened. The first passenger flight took off around 1:40 p.m. local time, 12 days after the terrorists attack. Brussels Airport CEO Arnaud Feist said the flights to Athens, Turin in Italy and Faro in Portugal were mostly symbolic.The Effective Monday, Belgium's biggest airport should be back at 20 percent of capacity and able to process 800 passengers and hour, Feist added. Brussels Airport, usually handled about 600 flights a day and served about 1.5 million people in February, the month before the attack. CEO Feist said he hopes full service can be restored by the end of June or the beginning of July in time for the summer vacation season. Shyanne Brown 2nd hr comp ABC news " A California bill that could potentially raise the smoking age to 21 could have a wide-ranging effect on young adult health in the state, according to experts". Many of the smokers in America start as teens and mostly before they are legally of age to purchase cigarettes. Some experts say that raising the age to 21 could help stop some teens from becoming addicted to cigarettes. It is still unclear if Governor Jerry Brown will approve the measure. Members from the vaping industry issued a statement that they were upset that their products were in with the other tobacco products in the bill. The vape industry is urging Brown to veto. There was one 2015 report by the Institution of Medicine attempted to break down how raising the age to buy that products would save lives. The report said that 90 percent of smokers start before they are 19. They have found that raising the legal age to buy the products would help cut teen smoking. So that 18 year old high school senior would no linger be able to legally buy cigarettes for their friends.

Shyanne Brown 4th hr comp News Chemo kits A fifth grader in ST. Louis had a good idea about how to help patients that are fighting cancer. She got this idea because of her late aunt. Madeline Domian who is 10 years old has put together over 50 kits to help children and adults deal with cancer treatments. The young girl told ABC news she wanted to help her Aunt Kathy that was diagnosed with cancer. The first thing this young lady did was to sell cookies to donate funds to the American Cancer Society.Madeline than came up with the "Kare Kits 4 Kids" idea as a way to honor her deceased Aunt. These kits are given to patients that are stricken with cancer. Madeline states," I just want to make them feel better and have a great life. I want to give them some comfort." This is a great example of how we can help and support people in need.

Shyanne Brown 2nd hr comp ABC News Apple Encryption Federal authorities have captured a San Bernardino Shooter. The authorities obtained the shooters phone and asked Apple to hack it so that they could get into the phone and find out information on later attacks. Apple said no and decided to fight in court against the authorities. Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that creating a backdoor for law enforcement to bypass security measures could compromise users' privacy. Brad Smith (Microsoft's president) states, " Technology companies should not be required to build in back doors to the technologies that keep their users' information secure". Authorities never asked apple to change their system. They just asked for them to hack into one phone for information. Is this invading into the terrorists rights. Do you think apple should help?
